N is an amiable, brilliant, eccentric kind of guy. Friendly enough to most, he's remarkably innocent--almost childlike and naive in some ways--but don't be fooled: N's a certified genius, and he is so intrinsically brilliant in the field of mathematics that he could rightfully be called a maths wizard. He's always been fascinated by mechanics and feats of engineering--his childhood fascination with trains and love of ferris wheels is testament to this--and though he has little practical experience with other people, he certainly has the potential to be an extraordinary figure. Unfortunately, humans aren't generally his biggest concern... at least, not by themselves.

Instead, N identifies with and cares most for the other form of life in his world.

He really, really cares about Pokemon.

To N, Pokemon are his friends, and he has been able speak their language since birth. He is the king of a sort of ideological 'cult' called Team Plasma, whose stated mission is to liberate Pokemon and separate them from human influence in order for them to reach their "full potential." He openly desires a separate world for humans and Pokemon, and frequently voices his misgivings about human nature. Having been isolated from (and shunned by) people for most of his life, it's not surprising that he maintains a very strong connection to Pokemon, and he's happiest when in their exclusive company. Indeed, Ghetsis deliberately cultivated this in him, and provided N with everything he could need--including Pokemon friends--while shaping N's mistrust of humanity and nurturing his convinction that the relationship between humans and Pokemon is wrong.

Still, in a lot of ways, N is a giant child--he's very disconnected, and it's made very clear that he doesn't understand humans and does not really want to. He is unused to the concept of 'disagreement,' at least it pertains to him, and he is incapable of allowing more than one point of view--his own, which he is WORD is the truth. In this way, his naivety and innocence are painfully obvious. His room at home is still decorated as it was when he was a young boy, and he continues to play with his train sets and puzzles. Having been raised in a deliberate vacuum for most of his life, there is little that can be done to dissuade N from his 'truths,' and he has a marked tendency to talk 'at' people rather than with them. His interactions with people are terribly skewed in this capacity; in conversation, N has a pronounced habit of speaking in broad universal terms, especially about humans and Pokemon; this often fails to endear him to others, but he takes no notice. Literally: he doesn't appear aware of it or how most of his behaviour generally affects the people around him, except for his desire to sway them. He's highly curious, and often gets into things--a little bit like a small child, really, although his pure and childlike nature is shot through with very adult . His social obliviousness is part of a larger problem, though--N is an alien in the world of humans and their interactions, and is more than capable of misunderstanding or missing important cues from his present company. His marked lack of interest coupled with his profound lack of exposure can make him a bit of a tragic (or comedic) figure at best sometimes--or a nuisance at worst. Having been raised and monitored so closely by Ghetsis and his 'sisters' his entire life, it's a wonder that N can be left in charge of dressing himself sometimes, let alone be king.

And yet N takes his role and responsibilities as king very seriously. At one point, he covers for two retreating Team Plasma members, even though it means battling, which he hates. He expresses this guilt and distaste openly throughout the game--"My friends getting hurt... that's what a Pokemon battle is"--and yet to protect two of the people over whom he 'reigns,' N engages the protagonist in battle.

N experiences extreme mood swings, and it's not very uncommon to find him in a deep funk when ten minutes ago he was energetic and happy. He claims he can see the past and future of people, and while the truth of that is debatable, N believes he is perfect and thus has a little trouble accepting when he's wrong. His unrestrained vivacity and intensity in his beliefs is very telling; N is determined to "solve the equation that will change the world," and to that end he is frequently seen questioning others in search of answers or results he has overlooked in pursuit of his "black and white" world. Grey is, to him, "unacceptable." In the end, he believes, the truth will be revealed and the future he envisions will be made reality. It is fortunate that he is a peaceful person, and his war is one fought largely with words--and the help of the legendary Pokemon. N seeks a truly peaceful form of revolution, one in which humans willingly separate themselves from Pokemon and release his friends from their state of bondage and oppression.

One day soon, he will meet the legendary Pokemon and become friends with it. On that day, he will appear before the people of Unova and issue his decree--"release your Pokemon!" The people will have no choice but to obey--and the world will change.

A change that, N believes, will be for the better.
